The brief
The Wedusea project aims to be a catalyst for the industrialisation of renewable wave energy around the world.
With 14 partners in collaboration across Europe, the change-making project aims to prove the huge potential that wave energy offers as part of the worldwide push for renewable energy solutions.
We were briefed to create a digital hub for this unique and pioneering renewable energy project. The website needed to showcase the progress, highlight news, as well as be a destination to learn about wave energy.
The outcome
The website has a mixture of grid-based and full-width layouts, allowing a myriad different content types and pages to be created by the client team. The design also makes the academic-length copy and supporting imagery easily digestible. Columns and title sections together mean user scroll little less while reading in-depth content.
We carried out user research in the early stages of the project. This informed our approach to the navigation, which we kept clear and simple. This ensures visitors from around the world can find the information they need quickly and efficiently.
The build follows low-carbon website standards, including the use of responsive modern image formats, limiting custom webfonts, lazy loading and effective caching at the server as well as the browser level.
