This policy explains how I collect, use and protect any information about you and your organisation that I obtain as part of my marketing activities, or when you communicate with me, use this website or engage my services.
This policy was last reviewed on the 25th April 2025.
Introduction
I work hard to protect your data and privacy. I believe it’s important to act ethically and help protect human rights in our increasingly digital world. So:
- I will only collect information about you and your organisation that is publicly available or when you communicate information directly with me.
- This website does not use tracking cookies.
- I use privacy-friendly website analytics and will never use software that tracks you or invades your privacy.
- I will regularly review and update this policy to ensure it meets data protection laws.
When you provide me with personal information about you, (such as your name, email address or phone number) you can be assured that it will only be collected with your consent and be used in accordance with this privacy policy. I will never disclose or share your information without your consent, unless required to do so by law. I will never sell your data.
The data I collect
I may collect publicly available information about you and your organisation as part of my efforts to find and connect with clients that are a good fit for me.
I may also collect the following information about you and your organisation when you contact me or become a client:
- Your name and job title
- Your organisation and work address
- Contact details, typically your email address, and sometimes a telephone number, and social media account usernames
- Details of the web browser and operating system you use. More information can be found in Analytics.
Sometimes, I may wish to share your information with another business or freelancer, on the basis that I may feel they are a good fit for a project or referral.
I do not collect sensitive personal data as part of my normal business activities. This means that I do not usually collect information concerning ethnicity, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union activities, physical or mental health, sexual life, or details of criminal offences. At times when I am required to collect such information, I will clearly state the reason for collecting the data and how it will be used.
Analytics
I use Cabin to provide privacy-first website analytics. Cabin’s platform includes privacy by design, with no IP tracking, or browser fingerprinting. Their privacy-first data model makes it impossible to identify individuals. The platform does not use cookies, so you are protected, no opt-outs needed. Cabin is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy, PECR and worldwide privacy laws.
Cookies
This website does not use cookies and does not track you.
“Cookies” are small files that are placed on your computer’s hard drive by your web browser. They can be used to make your experience online much better and useful, but they can also be used for more invasive purposes, such as tracking your browsing habits. You can read more about cookies and how to manage them at allaboutcookies.org.
What I do with the information collected
I require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:
- To facilitate the normal activities of providing my services to you, which includes communicating with you or your organisation
- For internal record keeping
- To fulfil my legal obligations in the prevention or detection of fraud or other illegal activities
- To contact you to gather feedback on my work or talks that you have attended
- To contact you by email or phone for market research purposes
- To send occasional promotional emails about new services or offers using the email address which you have provided
Where your data is used
Wherever possible, your information will only be used internally by me within the UK. In some circumstances, it may be necessary to share some of your information with subcontractors, who may be located outside the UK. When I work with subcontractors, they are required to adhere to my policies, including this privacy policy. In these situations, I will only share your information with your consent.
I will never sell or lease your personal information to third parties.
Where your data is stored on third-party systems, I try to ensure that your data remains in the UK, or inside the EU. For example, my website is hosted in the UK, and my email systems are all based in the UK with my web hosting provider, Krystal.
How long do I retain your personal information
I retain personal information collected from you as long as I have an ongoing legitimate business need to do so. For example, this may be in the normal activities of providing my services to you or as required by financial obligations or applicable laws.
As much as possible, I am a paperless business, meaning that all data is stored electronically wherever possible. I work hard to ensure that personal information is stored using secure software and services, such as LastPass. Any paper with sensitive information is securely shredded and recycled.
Links to other websites
This website may contain links to enable you to visit other websites of interest easily. However, once you have used these links to leave my website site, you should note that I do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, I cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting other sites, and such sites are not governed by this privacy policy.
Security
I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, I have put in place suitable physical and electronic procedures to safeguard and secure the information I collect.
My website and email systems are secured using a secure socket layer (SSL). Wherever I request personal information from you digitally, I use Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to ensure your data is safely transmitted to my server via SSL. Web browsers typically indicate that a website is secure by showing a padlock icon in its address bar.
Data breach notifications
Should I detect any data breaches that adversely affects your privacy, I will contact you as soon as possible and within the 72 hours required by data protection laws.
